Petersburg CHW Position as Research Assistant

Dr. Maghboeba Mosavel and Dr. Jessica LaRose seek 2 (two) hourly research associates to coordinate community facing aspects of a clinical trial to promote cardiometabolic health. This trial is the result of a decade of community-based participatory research and all activities will be conducted in close partnership with residents and key stakeholders in Petersburg, VA. These individuals will serve as the primary liaisons for the trial within the Petersburg community, overseeing community research staff, study implementation, community meetings, and data dissemination activities. One hourly research associate will focus on recruitment and retention efforts, while the other research associate will focus on primarily on intervention implementation. These positions will work closely with the Academic Clinical Research Coordinator to ensure regulatory and ethical compliance, as well as trial documentation.
Core Responsibilities: Community Outreach and Engagement: Liaise with the community advisory board (CAB), assisting with all activities, data, and communication between meetings. Coordinate all community facing meetings for the research study, including data dissemination activities. Research Coordination: Coordinate all community facing aspects of this clinical trial, including but not limited to: recruitment of trial participants per study manual of procedures and overseeing trial implementation in Petersburg to ensure compliance with all requirements. Assist with preparation of study related materials (e.g., intervention materials, materials for CAB meetings). Coordinate the development and implementation of all training sessions for community research staff, also known as Wellness Ambassadors. Personnel Management: Recruitment, retention, and management of community research staff, also known as Wellness Ambassadors Minimum Hiring Standards: BA/BS required with a degree in health sciences or related field Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Strong organization, time management, and critical thinking skills Demonstrated commitment to health equity as evidenced by their previous training, work experience, and / or community service Demonstrated ability to work with youth and families across a broad spectrum of socioeconomic background and lived experiences Ability to work well independent and as part of a team Flexibility with work hours to include evenings and weekends as needed Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer master’s degree in health sciences, social work, psychology, counseling, or related field Resident of Petersburg, Virginia given that is the community where the research, outreach and partnerships will take place Previous experience training and supervising staff Previous experience as a research coordinator, conducting lifestyle interventions. Prior experience working as part of a community-engaged research study
Salary Range: $20-24 p/hour
