One STRENGTH Pillar

Surrender: Release what you were never meant to carry

Surrender is the practice of recognizing what is no longer ours to hold and giving ourselves permission to release it. It does not mean giving up or becoming passive. Instead, surrender invites us to loosen our grip on the expectations, pressures, outcomes, and responsibilities that may be weighing us down.

This pillar invites us to reflect on what we have been carrying, what may be taking more from us than it gives, and what could become possible if we allowed ourselves to let go. Sometimes we hold onto things because they feel familiar, because we believe we are responsible for fixing them, or because releasing them requires us to trust what comes next.

To live with surrender is to understand that we can care deeply without carrying everything. We can acknowledge what is within our control, release what is not, and create space for rest, clarity, healing, and new possibilities. When we release what we were never meant to carry, surrender becomes an act of strength, making room for us to move forward with greater intention and ease.

Take a moment to reflect on what it means for you to release what you were never meant to carry through three areas:

  1. Release: What are you holding onto that no longer serves you or feels too heavy to continue carrying?

  2. Control: What are you trying to manage, fix, or control that may not actually be yours to hold?

  3. Space: What could become possible if you gave yourself permission to let go?

Choose one thing you are ready to release and reflect on what letting go could make room for.

Choose one thing you’ve been carrying and intentionally practice releasing it this week.

Surrender can begin with a small choice. Set a boundary, release an unrealistic expectation, ask for support, step away from something that is draining you, or simply acknowledge that not everything is yours to fix. Notice what becomes possible when you create space instead of continuing to carry more.

 Behind the STRENGTH™

This week, we are choosing Surrender as we reflect on what it means to release what we were never meant to carry. Surrender invites us to recognize the weight we have taken on, loosen our grip on what we cannot control, and make space for what we truly need.

Surrender is showing up behind the scenes when we set a boundary, ask for support, release an expectation, or accept that we do not have to have every answer. It can be found in the moments when we choose peace over pressure, trust over control, and give ourselves permission to put down what has become too heavy.

We are creating space to name what we are ready to release, recognize what is and is not ours to carry, and support one another in letting go without guilt. Surrender reminds us that releasing something does not mean it never mattered. Sometimes, letting go is how we create room for rest, clarity, growth, and whatever is waiting to emerge next.

One Week Ago & In Upcoming Weeks

Nature reminds us that surrender doesn’t always mean giving up, it can mean allowing ourselves to receive. The butterfly rests on the flower. The hummingbird pauses long enough to be nourished. Neither forces the moment; they simply trust what is available to them.

Surrender is giving myself permission to receive the beauty of a moment fully.

These art pieces bring the day back to me through color, memory, good company and joy.

It reminds me that when I am fully present, I can receive the gifts already surrounding me.
