One pillar, One practice, and One week in motion

September 21st - September 27th

Welcome to our 09/21/2026 edition of STRENGTH™ in Motion, a weekly space where we will explore one STRENGTH™ pillar, one STRENGTH™ practice, share what is happening behind the scenes, & invite you into upcoming opportunities

One STRENGTH Pillar

Trust: Move forward with confidence even when the path is uncertain

Trust is the practice of moving forward even when we cannot see every step ahead. It does not mean that we have all the answers or that uncertainty disappears. Instead, trust invites us to believe in our ability to navigate what comes next, lean on the support around us, and remain open to possibilities we may not yet be able to see.

This pillar invites us to reflect on where we may be waiting for certainty before allowing ourselves to move. Sometimes we hesitate because we are afraid of making the wrong choice, because the outcome is unknown, or because past experiences have made it difficult to believe that things can unfold differently. Trust reminds us that confidence does not always come before the first step; sometimes it grows because we were willing to take it.

To live with trust is to understand that we do not need to know exactly how everything will unfold in order to keep going. We can honor what we know, draw from what we have learned, seek support when we need it, and give ourselves permission to move forward one step at a time. When we trust ourselves, our communities, and the possibility of what lies ahead, uncertainty becomes less of a barrier and more of an invitation to grow.

"Trust gives us enough light for the next step"

Stephanie Toney

Take a moment to reflect on what it means for you to move forward with confidence, even when the path ahead is uncertain, through three areas:

  1. Confidence: Where in your life are you being called to believe in yourself, even if you do not have all the answers?

  2. Uncertainty: What unknown or unanswered question has been keeping you from taking your next step?

  3. Support: Who, what, or which past experience reminds you that you have what you need to navigate what comes next?

Choose one area where you are ready to trust yourself more and reflect on what moving forward could look like.

Choose one step you’ve been hesitant to take and intentionally practice moving forward with trust this week.

Trust can begin with one small step. Make the decision, start the conversation, ask for support, try something new, or move forward with what you know today. You do not need every answer before you begin. Notice what becomes possible when you allow trust; not certainty; to guide your next step.

"Trust turns the next step into enough for today"

 Behind the STRENGTH™

This week, we are choosing Trust as we reflect on what it means to move forward with confidence even when the path is uncertain. Trust invites us to recognize that we do not need to have every answer before taking the next step. It asks us to believe in what we know, remain open to what we are still learning, and have confidence in our ability to navigate what comes next.

Trust is showing up behind the scenes when we make a decision without knowing exactly how it will unfold, ask for support when we need it, try something new, or choose to keep going despite uncertainty. It can be found in the moments when we listen to ourselves, lean on our communities, draw from what past experiences have taught us, and allow confidence to grow through action.

We are creating space to acknowledge where uncertainty may be holding us back, recognize the strengths and support we already have, and encourage one another to take the next step. Trust reminds us that moving forward does not require a perfect plan. Sometimes, trusting ourselves enough to begin is what allows new possibilities, growth, and direction to emerge.

“Clarity grows as we faithfully move with the light we already have”

One Week Ago & In Upcoming Weeks

Trust often becomes visible through the people and places that remind us how far we have come.

Completing the Theology and Health Care certificate at Duke Divinity School in 2025 connected us through learning, reflection, and shared purpose. Meeting again (some of us) at the Practice and Presence conference felt like a beautiful reminder that some relationships continue to grow long after the classroom ends.

This bingo card became more than a game for me. I got a four corner bingo and a diagonal bingo BUT the real reminder is that these are practices I want to carry with me whether there is a card in front of me or not.

The card may guide the practice for a season, but trust is what helps the practice become part of how I live.

Trust showed up in community this week.

We were grateful to gather in person in Waynesboro at Embrace Centers for Community while VACHWA joined the effort. What began as a virtual connection became an opportunity to share space, strengthen relationships and learn from one another face to face.

Moments like this remind us that trust grows when we keep showing up, stay open to connection, and make room for relationships to deepen over time.
