This verse speaks of adding godliness to perseverance, self-control, and knowledge. Self-discipline is the steady choice to live with intention. I’m choosing growth over comfort, focus over distraction, and faithfulness over impulse. It fuels us to stay committed to our purpose…even when it’s hard.

Peter is expressing the fact that unless you are deeply routed into the word of God, you will not be able to control yourself as also stated in Romans 7:19. All the verses would want everyone to stick and follow the word to the letter in order to gain confidence, the power and gain the real spiritual strength to help you move to the right and acceptable direction where you don't deviate in evil ways.
