The Heart Behind the Work

Behind the work of Community Health Workers are relationships, experiences, and everyday moments that give it meaning.

Today’s conversation makes room for the people and experiences that keep that commitment alive.

SHARE HOPE: What fuels your connection to community health?

If you are a CHW, share what brings you joy or reminds you why you do this work. If you are a community member or supporter, share what inspires your appreciation for CHWs.

It might be a trusted relationship, a moment of understanding, or someone who showed up when support was needed.

GIVE HOPE: Respond to someone’s story. Let them know what stood out to you and why it matters.

Recognition can begin with a simple message: “The care you bring makes a difference.”

Today, let’s celebrate the heart behind the work. Together, weHOPE.

Follow the CHWStrength blog and engage with our VA CHW Awareness Week weHOPE posts October 12–18. Each engagement earns an entry in our digital gift card drawing. More engagement means more entries and more chances to win!

The drawing will take place October 19.

What fuels my connection to community health is the people. It is the conversations, the trust that gets built over time, and those moments when someone feels heard and knows they do not have to figure everything out by themselves.

What keeps me doing this work is knowing that sometimes a simple follow-up, the right information, or just taking the time to listen can make a real difference in someone’s day or help them take their next step. That where you will find my heart.
