One opportunity I came across yesterday was at a high school that students voluntarily attend while overcoming substance use challenges. Many of these students are already working closely with Peer Recovery Specialists to explore what they want their futures to look like, while some are also working toward becoming peers themselves. It made me think about what it could look like to introduce the CHW pathway to these students as well. Becoming both Peer Recovery Specialists and Community Health Workers could equip them to use their lived experiences, build valuable skills, and become strong advocates and trusted resources within their own communities.
