Seasonal Affective Disorder also referred to as SAD, is a
common mood disorder. It is characterized by
depression which is brought on by the changing of the
seasons. This reoccurring seasonal pattern has
symptoms lasting around 4 to 5 months. These mood
changes in most cases symptoms tend to start around
fall, or early winter. This is often referred to as the
“winter blues.” Less common is summer depression.
This tends to start when the weather warms up in the
spring and early summer.The severity of these mood changes varies by person. This can affect an individual’s mental state and behavior.
